Checking stock where the work happens

The warehouse asks us to check stock for them.

For warehouse and operations managers, and whoever in sales takes the call: is it in stock, where, and when is more coming?

The stock is in NetSuite. The answer travels by phone.

  • A customer asks for an item. The rep clicks through the item's locations, bins and open purchase orders while the customer waits. On the floor, a lead calls the office, or reads this morning's export pinned by the dock, wrong by the afternoon.

  • Meanwhile stock committed elsewhere is promised, and the transfer that would have filled the order is never raised. NetSuite holds the quantities. Nobody has had time to put them where the work happens.

One screen: the item, where it is, and what is available.

Native first, with pragmatism. If a native feature covers the need, SeamSet sets it up (a saved search, a workflow, an approval rule), through your NetSuite admin's approval, and writes no code. If the native route would cost more to set up and run than the need is worth, SeamSet says so and proposes the lighter option. Account features stay your admin's switch. Otherwise SeamSet builds the screen:

  • Search an item: what is on hand, available and on order at each location, and in which bin, current when the screen opens.
  • Items running low at a location flagged, with the next expected delivery.
  • To move stock, a link opens the matching NetSuite transaction. The screen itself changes nothing.

Works on a lead's tablet or a desk.

Example page inside a NetSuite account, fictional company and data: "Stock by location" for Quillon Fastener Supply, read-only, read at 10:14. The item searched is QF-1060, Hex bolt, stainless, M10 by 60 mm, sold by the box of 50. Quantities by location, in boxes: Reno, 1,240 on hand, 980 available, 0 on order; Columbus, 612 on hand, 540 available, 400 on order; Dallas, 86 on hand, 12 available, 600 on order, flagged running low, next delivery expected 2 Oct on PO-5531; Newark, 355 on hand, 355 available, 0 on order. Total 2,293 on hand, 1,887 available, 1,000 on order. Columbus is opened to its bins: bin A-04-2, 400; bin A-04-3, 150; bin C-11-1, 62. Under it, a link to move stock opens a new transfer order in NetSuite. The items, stock by location and bin, open orders and the transfer order are marked native. The page and the running low flag are marked as what SeamSet adds.

Inside your NetSuite account

The screen is a page in your NetSuite menu, opened with the logins your team already has.

No NetSuite login? NetSuite can email a saved search on a schedule: this morning's export, sent automatically.

Read-only. It never changes a transaction, item or quantity.

Reads

items and their stock by location, and open sales, purchase and transfer orders. Bins, lots and serials show only if your account already tracks them.

Access

your admin connects SeamSet and decides what it can access.

Added to your account

the screen and any saved searches it needs, all listed for your admin before approval.

A first version in minutes. Live once your admin approves.

Describe the screen in plain words. Every change is tested before it goes live. The log records who asked, who approved, what changed and when.

Bring the stock question that still takes a phone call.

Tell us which items it is about, who asks and who answers today. We'll talk it through.
